I got myself a new Panasonic HS700 to take the place of my old JVC camcorder last month. There are three models of Panasonic 700 series, SD700, TM700, and HS700. They are all very good HD camcorders and can shoot amazing full HD 1080/60p at 28Mbps; the 700 series’ high-sensitivity 3MOS system has achieved 11.49 million effective motion image pixels. This high-sensitivity sensors have improved the efficiency of light gathering, increased sensitivity, and reduced noise by one-half to provide users with bright, low-noise recording even in dim lighting. The only difference of these three models is the type of media.

The reason why I purchased the most expensive HS700 is its in-built memory reaches 240GB and I don't like use memory cards. When shooting 1080/50p footages at 28Mbps, my HS700 can restore about 20 hours of videos while TM700 only can restore 2 hours and 40 minutes. I think HS700 is worth its price to me.

However, there was something wrong when I tried to import 1080/60p AVCHD .MTS files form Panasonic HS700 to Final Cut Pro 6, I searched this question and found that FCP 6 did not support 1080/50p AVCHD well and some guys recommended me to use Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac to transcode the 1080/50p to Prores 422 for FCP. I tried and succeeded to import 1080/60p at 28Mbps AVCHD to FCP 6 for editing.

Below is the fast guide for you to convert HS700 AVCHD to ProRes 422 for FCP 6.

Step 1. Upload Panasonic footage to Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac.
Use USB cable to connect Panasonic camcorder to iMac/MacBook Pro, run Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac as the best 2011 AVCHD to ProRes 422 converter on Mac 10.6 Snow Leopard, 10.5 Leopard and 10.4 Tiger. Click the "Add" button to import .mts files from camcorder to the converter.

Step 2. Choose ProRes codec with 1080 video size.

Click the "Format" option, and move mouse cursor to Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422(HQ) (*.mov) as output format. Click the "Settings" button and choose 1920*1080 from the drop-down box of video size to keep HD resolution.

Step 3. Convert Panasonic AVCHD video to MOV for FCP 6.
Click the convert button under the preview window, the Mac Panasonic video converter will start converting 1080/60p AVCHD footage to ProRes 422 for FCP 6.

After the conversion from HS700 to ProRes 422 HQ for FCP, you can import the output .mov files to Final Cut Pro for editing.

Tips:
1. If you are using Final Cut Pro 5 or lower version, ProRes is not the best format for you. However, you can choose QuickTime Movie Format > Apple InterMediate Codec(AIC) as output format for editing on Mac.

2. If you records videos in 1080i, you will need to deinterlace 1080i video to progressive mode for smooth playback on Mac computer. Click the Editor button and go to the Effect tab to make sure the checkbox for deinterlacing is ticked before clicking the convert button.
