Yesterday I have just bought a new JVC GZ-HD7 camcorder as my daughter’s birthday present. She was so interested in it that she used it to shoot many short films here and there in the house. Just in a while she came in with the loss of facial expression, “Dad, I need to edit the videos with FCP, but I was confused with it that it is impossible to guide these .tod files into FCP.”
With the development of Apple ProRes 422, FCP has become more and more popular in editing video files with HD quality. But it is reported that it does not support the .tod files for being guided into. Therefore I spent a lot of time looking for the best quality converter to convert .tod files for FCP editing out there, hoping that I could do something helpful for my daughter. Finally I found the Final Mate, with which I successfully convert the .tod files for editing in the FCP.
Below I will introduce the process of converting .tod files into Apple ProRes 422 through the Final Mate for Mac in detail.
First, you need to get the camcorder be connected to computer with USB cable. Then you will get a prompt which need you to make choice, select the “Import” option and click the “OK” button to import video files into Final Mate.
Second, just drag .tod files to the movie tab under the camcorder tab in order to make a program for converting. If you want to cut the videos, you can also drag the timeline on the right and click the “Split” button. Of course you can skip this operation and click the “Export” button immediately.
Third, you need to set the correct options for converting. It is important for you to choose the Final Cut Pro for outputting format. After that, click the “OK” button and wait for a moment, then you will get the Apple ProRes 422 files which can be edited in FCP.
Tip: You can select the option of “Shut down computer when conversion is completed” to turn off the computer when you are going to go outside.
