When you start to build a home network theatre with media server, you may also need a media center to manage the media files on the home net. And which media center do you think is more popular? Many people prefer XBMC Media Center because it is free of charge and can work well on different platforms like Windows, Mac, Linux and even Xbox.
XBMC alone has a ton of cool content available, including those that let you play Netflix, Blu-Rays and more. You also have skins galore, which can make your home theater PC a gorgeous beast suitable for impressing all your friends. XBMC helps you play CD/DVD media, and it supports streaming videos, audios and images via SMB, UPnP and DLNA.
However, MTS, M2TS or any AVCHD formats are not listed in the supported format list. One of the methods to solve the problem that playing MTS/M2TS videos on XBMC is to convert AVCHD videos to MPEG-2 for XBMC, as XBMC supports MPEG with MPEG-2 video codec for input. Here I use Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac to make it as an example.
Step 1. Load MTS/M2TS videos to Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac with ease.
Run the Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac and the program will recognize the camcorder when it is connected to Mac. Then choose to backup your videos to Mac hard drive, but if the free space of your Mac hard drive is not enough to store those files, you can choose directly impot them to the resource tab as you like.
Step 2. Create output movies for conversion of MTS/M2TS to MPEG 2.
Just drag the files you want to have converted to the movie tab, and the program will create movies for conversion output.
Step 3. Choose the right output format and start to convert AVCHD MTS/M2TS to MPEG-2 for Xbox.
XBMC actually supports many video and audio formats, and the M2TS converter offers different kinds of output formats like AVI, MP4, 3GP, WMV. I choose MPEG 2 as an example. Just click the format icon and choose HD Video > MPEG-2 HD Video (*.mpg) for the output. After that, click the export button on the bottom-right of the interface, and the conversion from AVCHD MTS/M2TS to MPEG-2 starts.
Wait for a while and the conversion from M2TS to MPEG-2 will be finished in a short time. Run XBMC on Mac and add videos from Mac hard drive to the library.
