If you have MythTV as the digital video recorder (DVR) for capturing unencrypted HDTV stream or home entertainment software, you may find it a great partner for home theater. The internal player of MythTV supports playing Blu-ray disc. While you can play .mts or .m2ts files with MythTV internal player, you may also like to cut the unwanted part to keep the useful segment, or merge related video footage to one large file before putting the videos to MythVideo directory.
Since the source AVCHD files from camcorder are generally in high quality, it would be perfect to get raw mts or m2ts output. Aunsoft Final Mate is the recommended mts raw video editor for you to merge and cut AVCHD files without re-encoding to keep high quality.
Below is the quick step-by-step guide for you to cut join .mts and .m2ts files with raw AVCHD output for MythTV. Here we take Panasonic HDC-TM700 as the source video camcorder.
Step 1. Capture videos from camcorder to computer.
Use USB cable to connect Panasonic HDC-TM700 camcorder to computer, and run Aunsoft Final Mate as the fast mts/m2ts raw video editor. Aunsoft Final Mate will detect the camcorder and run the camcorder wizard for capturing videos. Choose the Import option and create movie with files in same format to directly capture video files from Panasonic HDC-TM700.
Step 2. Cut/Merge AVCHD MTS/M2TS raw footage.
While selecting to create movie with same format, the videos with the same recording mode (fps, video codec, video size) will be merged into one movie. To separate the different events with same recording mode, just choose the video clip on timeline, and click the Delete button. Then create a blank movie and add video from the Files tab to the blank movie.
To cut the unwanted video segment, use the Vernier as time pointer. Click the Split button when the Vernier is on the time you want to cut. Choose the unwanted segment and click the Delete button to remove the useless part.
Step 3. Export movie to lossless raw.
Click the "Export" button and you will face the window with Lossless Output option selected. Click the OK button to enable mts raw output for MythTV.
The lossless re-wrapping will take only a few minutes. When the joining process is done, you can rename the .mts file extension to .m2ts, as MythTV only recognizes the .m2ts file extension for playback. Then you can play MTS files on MythTV.
