Cyberlink PowerDirector 9 Ultra is review by PCMag.com as the first consumer video editing software for 64-bit Windows. It is easy to process videos and create DVD with PowerDirector. Since Cyberlink PowerDirector 7, users can import AVCHD files for editing. However, with the old computers, the AVCHD editing does not go smoothly in Cyberlink PowerDirector.

Step 1. Get Sony XR550 footage to Final Mate.

For videos transferred to PC hard drive, just go to the Resource tab, click the Add Path button to get the camcorder files listed. To import videos from XR550 camcorder, just connect the camcorder, follow the wizard, and the clips will be listed on the Camcorder tab.
Step 2. Choose XR550 clips for merging or output.
Since here we would like to edit clips on old computer, we need format conversion for Cyberlink PowerDirector. Select the files from the Camcorder tab or Resource tab, drag and drop to the Movies tab underneath. When you choose several files at a time, you can choose to create a single movie and the XR550 MTS joiner will combine the files.
Step 3. Export XR550 MTS/M2TS to Cyberlink PD 7/8/9.
Click the Export button, and go to the Editor tab. Choose Cyberlink PowerDirector group. There four formats as output: Cyberlink MOV (AVC) (*.mov), Cyberlink MPEG-2 (*.mpg), Cyberlink WMV (VC-1) (*.wmv) and Cyberlink MPEG-4 Movie (*.mp4). Here we choose .mov format, and you can choose your preferred file container. Then click the OK button to start converting 1920x1080 AVCHD to full HD video.
To get high quality videos, you can choose high quality from the video bit rate drop-down box before starting conversion.
When the conversion is done, just put the output HD videos to Cyberlink PowerDirector and enjoy the editing and movie making.
