Sony Vegas claimed that it supports AVCHD, WMV, MP4, MOV, Sony MXF, etc, while P2 MXF isn’t included. As far as we know, P2 Camcorders also accounts for a large portion in MXF camcorders. However, why Sony Vegas doesn’t support P2 MXF files? Googled to find there’s a version that Sony Vegas and Panasonic refuse to share proprietary info and never play nice together.
P2 MXF contains DVCPRO HD which is a proprietary Panasonic format (it is a competitor to Sony HDCAM) and from what I understand, Sony and Panasonic lawyers can't agree on the terms under which to "share" this proprietary information so that Vegas can support it. So it's complicated by the fact that these two companies are competitors each one wanting to protect its own intellectual property.
Anyway, since Sony Vegas can’t recognize Panasonic MXF files, what will you do if you happen to be lucky enough to own Sony Vegas 10.0 and a Panasonic HVX200? Panasonic HVX200 or HPX170, or other P2 camcorders records footage in MXF format. When launching Sony Vegas, it seems impossible to drag Panasonic MXF clips to timeline. Is there any way to import P2 MXF files into Sony Vegas 10.0?
