Have you ever fancied recording wedding, travel, evens like Worldcup, World Expo etc with your camcorders? Have you ever imagined making a film on your own? If you own a Sony HXR-NX5E camcorder, you can make your dreams come true. HXR-NX5E is Sony’s first professional AVCHD camcorder, which records stunning quality 1920 x 1080 images at 24Mbps (50i or 25p), as well as supporting 720/50p and Standard Definition recording. With Sony's “G Lens” and Exmor™ technology, it also provides excellent resolution, color and contrast, as well as exceptional low-light sensitivity. For those who work in areas such as weddings, events, travel documentary and other areas that would benefit from a system that can capture a good amount of 1920x1080p data on inexpensive media on a quality camera that uses very little battery power that can fit in a small shoulder bag, has got to be worth a look. Sony NXCAM HXR-NX5E is even the first camcorder of its class to feature a built-in GPS locator, high quality Linear PCM audio recording and new Active SteadyShot stabilisation technology.
Sony HXR-NX5E supports to record HD videos and SD videos, with the format supported as follows:
HD Video: MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AVCHD)
HD Audio: Linear PCM 2ch, 16bit, 48kHz / Dolby Digital 2ch, 16bit, 48kHz
SD Video: SD MPEG-2 PS
SD Audio: SD Dolby Digital 2ch, 16bit, 48kHz
After you shot or recorded the videos you want, you are sure to connect your camcorder to your PC or Mac via USB (The USB port must be provided as standard, Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0 compatible) and want to download the AVCHD (MTS/M2TS) files for editing. Fortunately if you are a PC user or Windows user, Sony sent you a software - Content Management Utility for clip management and file uploading. When you loaded it onto a PC or laptop, you can view the clips you had shot within minutes. Then you can split larges files and merge divided clips with ease. Of course, the software is not as powerful as Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas. And if you have already owned a powerful editing tool, you may find it is very hard to load the Sony HXR-NX5E AVCHD footages. In this time, you need another third-part product - Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter to help you decode Sony HXR-NX5E AVCHD codec and encoded it to an easy-to-use or suitable format for your editing software.
If you are working the AVCHD footages on Mac stage, it requires the AVCHD clips to be converted into the Apple Pro Res 422 codec. It’s a straight forward process, you simply opened a new Final Cut Pro project and set the sequence settings to Apple ProRes 422 1920X1080 25p HQ (1920x1080/25p is the format we shot in) go to File and then Log&Transfer, as soon as you connect the media card via a reader plugged into the Mac via the USB port, the clips are automatically listed in the Log & Transfer box window. Click on the clip and then click on the convert button; it does not take long, and the completed file appears in your Final Cut Pro bin ready to be dropped into the timeline. Then please do your further editing with abandon on Mac.
Sony HXR-NX5E also owns some shortcomings like sharpness only average, no touch focus and no shot transition, but I still considered it as a good companion for the filmmaker, Wedding Photographer, Travel Photographer.
