This year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas has supplied a flood of announcements about new cell phones. Two intriguing new phones are the Motorola DROID Bionic and the Motorola Atrix 4G. Destined for two different carriers, both the DROID Bionic and the Atrix 4G are 4G phones, but use different technology to get there. The DROID Bionic connects at 4G speeds to Verizon Wireless’ LTE network, while the Atrix 4G streams data using AT&T’s HSPA+ technology. Once the data arrives at the phone, it will be processed and displayed by more powerful hardware than what is currently on the market, including LCD screens with 540 x 960-pixel resolution. These two phones have all sorts of power up their sleeves, including an expansion docking keyboard for the Atrix 4G and dual-core processors for both phones.

Key Differences
- Display: The Motorola DROID Bionic will have a 4.3-inch LCD display, while the Motorola Atrix 4G measures in at 4.0 inches even. Both have 540 x 960-pixel resolution, which is higher than any currently sold Android cell phone. In addition, the Atrix 4G slips into a docking keyboard with an 11.6-inch monitor, letting the Atrix 4G work as the brains of a compact and lightweight travel computer.
- Operating system: Both the Motorola Atrix 4G and the DROID Bionic will run Android 2.2. Both promise an upgrade to Android 2.3 by the end of 2011.
- Processor and RAM: Both phones feature dual-core 1GHz processors. The DROID Bionic has 512MB of RAM, while the Atrix 4G has 1GB of RAM, which is more than any currently available Android phone.
- Keyboard: Both the Motorola DROID Bionic and the Atrix 4G have on-screen virtual QWERTY keyboards. However, the Atrix 4G also docks to a full-size physical keyboard.
- Storage Space: Both phones will ship with 16GB of onboard memory, and both will have microSD slots that will accommodate memory cards up to 32GB.
- Camera: The Motorola DROID Bionic will have an 8-megapixel still-image camera, while the Atrix 4G will have a 5-megapixel camera. Both will be able to record HD video at 720p resolution.
- Battery life: Both phones have the same size battery: 1,930 mAh. This is substantially larger than the batteries currently available in Android phones.
